Bulbophyllum Jiraporn Punpreuk is a new bulbophyllum hybrid that cross between Bulbophyllum sanguineopunctatum x Bulbophyllum annandalei.
These flowers get a shape from Bulbophyllum annandalei and get the color from Bulbophyllum sanguineopunctatum.

Bulbophyllum auratum found in Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra and the Philippines. They have many colors and shapes.
The flower that you see below is one example of  Bulbophyllum auratum. It’s yellow color and long shoes.

I think the color of this Bulbophyllum auratum yellow depending on growing factors too!
Because somting it gives me a pale yellow but  last season it gave me a medium yellow.

Doritis pulcherrima var alba has beautiful flowers. It has many flowers in the inflorescence. If you grow it in a good condition, it can give 2-3 inflorescences.

Brassavola cuculata is an epiphytic orchid plant that grows best mounted on wood. Brassavola cuculata has the flowers that smells somewhat skunky at night.
But I never try to smell its flowers. nest time I think I have to try it

Bulbophyllum sanguineopunctatum has a common name
that called “The Red Dotted Bulbophyllum”
Found in Laos and blooms on an erect, 3 to 6 flowered inflorescence.

Bulbophyllum sanguineopunctatum is quite look like Bulbophyllum longissimum but the tail is a little bit shorter than Bulbophyllum longissimum.
Normally,The flowers of Bulbophyllum sanguineopunctatum are a creamy white to yellow colour with red striping and spots and around 100-130mm long.
But this plant (Bulbophyllum sanguineopunctatum) has soft pink flowers.

Found in Laos and Thailand as a miniature sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte that blooms in the spring and summer.
Often spelled D lanyaiae, the correct spelling is D lamyaiae which refers to the tree that it is often associated with the Lamyai fruit tree which is also called longans.

This is a species orchid that most orchid growers know as a bamboo orchid because it has stems and leaves look like bamboo plant.
This tropical Asiatic genus extends from India, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South China to Indonesia and across the Pacific Islands. It has been introduced in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Panama and Hawaii.

Arundina graminifolia has beautiful flowers, 5 – 6 cm in diameter, are a rosy lilac and white disk with a purple lip. Arundina graminifolia blooms in summer and autumn. And now, my Arundina graminifolia is blooming (September 2011) So, I took beautiful photos to share all orchid lovers below.

Arundina graminifolia or bamboo orchid is a terrestrial orchid that is easy to grow and propagating.

You can propagate Arundina graminifolia by division. I just divided it yesterday.You can see a new Arundina graminifolia plant below.

This orchid is Bulbophyllum planibulbe. It has lovely pseudobulbs, leaves and flowers. This bulbophyllum orchid is quite rarely orchid and difficult to flower. It is too hard to make an orchid flask from it flowers. So, the cutting technique is the best way to propagate this orchid.
You can see new growths of orchid in the picture. It has many new growths that growing over the side away from the wood and they are ready to cut.
The problem is the pseudobulbs are quite small and easy to lost moisture if I cut them off. So, I decide to use the new technique to plant new growths onto the main orchid plant. Choose the new growth that has no fewer than 3 pseudobulbs because in my experiences the plant that has more than 3 pseudobulbs are growing faster and making new roots very well. I choose a plastic net to plant the orchid plant because I think it is quite clean and safety from fungus and diseases.

Use the plastic net that is slightly longer than the plant to give it enough space to grow for several years. Place a pad of sphagnum moss onto the plastic net and hold the plant onto the plastic net that has a pad of sphagnum moss. Careful tie the plant by a plastic-coated wire. Then, watering the orchid plant normally.

Let the new plant making new roots and establish itself on the sphagnum moss and plastic net. Cut the new orchid plant from the main orchid plant when you think it is healthy enough or can growing by itself onto the new compost depending on your decision.

You can use this technique with other orchids. I show the picture that I use this technique with my Dendrobium parishii.

Orchid species is very attractive. Each species have completely different attractive points, some species have cute flowers and some have lovely leaves and form. Now, there are many hobbyists that grow and collect orchid species. Some people buy orchid species from legal farms (legal farms have to have permit about growing orchid species from government) but some people buy orchid species from illegal farm who sell orchid species that took from forest. If you buy orchid species from illegal farm, you must realize that your orchid collection is dangerous.

Here are effects from orchid species that took from forest.

1.Orchids that took from forest is hard to plant and take care because the environment that appropriate for them is the forest not your greenhouse. If you want orchid species you should buy them from legal farm because they will make a healthier flask and sale the orchid plant that appropriate to plant in green house.

2.A lot of diseases come with wild orchids especially fungi. Fungi can harm your orchids. Infected orchids will show many symptoms of disease like irregular yellow spots on leaves or flowers, rotten roots, black rots on pseudo bulbs etc. If your orchids are infected with fungi, you should treat them as fast as you can because fungi is easily spread to other orchids and they can kill orchids.

3.There is dangerous fungi that normally find on wild orchids is Sclerotium rofsii. (learn more about Sclerotium rofsii….)
4.If you buy orchids from illegal farm who sell orchid species that took from forest, It will support them to take more wild orchids from the forest and many wild orchid will lost.

This is reasons that you shouldn’t buy orchids from illegal farm who sell orchid species that took from forest. However, if you still want to buy orchids from illegal farm who sell orchid species that took from forest, I hope you are lucky. Take care yourself and your orchids.
